ندعوكن/م للانضمام إلى ايما حركة ورزان الخطيب في الجزء الثالث من سلسلة ورش العمل “كان يا ما كان”. بعد ورشتي العمل حول المقتنيات والمراسلات، سنجتمع افتراضياً لنتصفّح صورنا، لماذا نلتقط الصور، ولماذا نحتفظ بها؟ وكيف نستهلكها ونتداولها وننسخها؟ هل تستطيع الصورة إرجاع الذكريات بكل ما فيها من مشاعر؟ وما تأثير ذلك على قراءتنا وفهمنا للصورة؟ 

كيف نعرضُ صورنا ونحكي عنها؟ وماذا نتوقع منها؟ وإذا كان السرد الشفهي في المقام الأول لغة، فإن للصورة لغتها البصرية ومعجمها ورموزها الخاصة المعنية بتفعيل مجموعة من الاحتمالات والتصورات الخاصة بالعالم الذي نسكنه. ما هي التحولات التي يمكن أن تطرأ على الصورة في الفضاء الافتراضي؟ وكيف تؤثر فكرة الألبوم — سواء كانت ألبومات مادية أو على منصّات رقمية أو مجموعات أرشيفية— على الوظيفة الاجتماعية للصور واستقبالها (المعنى)؟ سننطلق من هذه الأسئلة لمقاربة علاقة الصورة بمفاهيم الهوية والانتماء. 

أحضروا/ن معكم/ن صورة توحي بالانتماء، تشعرون بالراحة لمشاركتها مع المجموعة. سوف نقوم معاً باستكشاف علاقة السرد القصصي بإعادة تشكيل الصور في سياقها الثقافي الأشمل. 

“كان يا ما كان” هي ورشة عمل من ثلاثة أجزاء باللغة العربية تستكشف العلاقات ما بين السرد والإصغاء والمقتنيات، وهي جزء من مشروع غاليري “ليونارد وبينا آلن للفن” التواصلي “ممتلكات”. تهدف هذه السلسلة إلى خلق فضاءات إضافية في أنحاء المدينة حيث يمكن لساكنيها الناطقين بالعربية المشاركة والإصغاء بشكل جماعي. 

باستضافة إيما حركة، تسلّط كل ورشة عمل الضوء على ضيف أو ضيفة يجلبن معهن طريقتهن الخاصة بالسرد والاستماع، قبل دعوة المشاركين/ات إلى سرد قصصهم/ن الخاصة بناءً على تجاربهم/ن مع أغراض مألوفة. 

رزان الخطيب هي ثالث ضيفة في هذه السلسلة.

Arabic-speakers are invited to join Emma Haraké and Razan ElKhateib for the third installment of our Once There Was, Once There Wasn’t (Kan Ya Ma Kan) workshop series. Meeting on-line, participants this time will turn their attention to photographs and examine together how their intention, making, consumption, circulation, and reuse impact the way in which they are understood and told.

What does it mean to tell through photographs? How do we engage with their language, codes, and agency? What reading practices do they invite? How does this interaction mediate the world? What is it that we expect from a photograph? What does it entail to bring photographic objects into a virtual space? And how does the idea of a collection—be it in physical albums, on digital platforms, or in archives—bear on photographs’ social function and reception? Beginning with these questions, we’ll relate photographs to larger themes concerning identity, belonging, and spectatorship.

Bring a photograph, physical or digital, that suggests belonging and that you are comfortable sharing with the group. Together we will explore the ways in which storytelling can animate our photographs and embed them in collective narratives.

Once There Was, Once There Wasn’t (Kan Ya Ma Kan) is a three-part workshop series in Arabic exploring the relationships between telling, listening and belongings. As part of the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery’s outreach project Mumtalakat, the series aims to create more spaces around the city for Arabic-speaking Montrealers to share and listen collectively.

Hosted by Emma Haraké, each session features a guest introducing their own way of telling and listening before participants are invited to narrate their own stories based on their experiences with seemingly ordinary objects.
