Tracking the Traces draws attention to the act of listening. It focuses on the documentation, transmission, flow, and evocation of sound. Tracking the Traces brings together diverse works in the forms they take and the mediums they employ: kinetic installation, video, sound installation, collections of artifacts, works on compact-disc, and live performance. As a whole, this project reflects upon the trace or traces that sound leaves within us and around us, anchoring singular presences and experiences.
Tracking the Traces is curated by Nicole Gingras, the Visiting Curator of Contemporary Art at the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery for 2005 and 2006. This exhibition is the initial part of a project that will conclude in the spring of 2006.
The Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery’s contemporary exhibition program is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
