Mwamini, Admir, Daniel and Kali grew up in St-Pie X, Quebec City’s largest low-income housing complex, where most of the residents are immigrant refugees. At the dawn of adulthood, proud of their backgrounds and identities, each of them is committed to giving back to the community’s youth. La Cité des Autres (2021), directed by Justice Rutikara, is a poetic immersion in this unique environment, where living together challenges many prejudices. Following the screening, educator, historian, and community activist Alain Saint-Victor will present the concept of vivre-ensemble [living together]. We can’t expect to build social cohesion as a value by relying solely on the common sense of individuals in isolation. Le vivre-ensemble should be conceived and developed by institutions such as schools, the press and other social organizations. It should be taken over by the state as a value necessary to the harmony of society.

Event Notes:

  • The film will be presented in French.
  • Refreshments will be provided.
