Artist-Run Centres: Incubator for Emerging Artists

Presented in Collaboration with the RCAAQ

Wednesday, October 8, 2025 4:00 – 5:00 PM
At SHIFT Centre for Social Transformation
1400 Blvd. De Maisonneuve Ouest (LB 145)
Free, in English, email to register

Artist-run centres are non-profit organizations operated by artists for artists. Promoting the values of participation, experimentation and innovation, the main activity of these institutions is to encourage the production of artworks, their promotion and research in contemporary art. All this, in spaces that exist outside of commercial structures, independent of the imperatives of the art market. They offer artists spaces, equipment, services and specialized resources, they propose reflection, training, and professionalization activities, and welcome artists for residencies and production projects.

This workshop offers a broad introduction to the culture of artist-run centres and highlights their vital role in supporting emerging artists as they gain professional experience and find their place in the contemporary art world.
