This first major publication on this Québec conceptual artist attempts to circumscribe his practice from its beginnings in the 1970s. An erudite author, Gervais joins forces with curator Nicole Gingras interested in what connects sound, image and words. Gervais recounts his beginnings as a musician in Montreal, and his discovery of the avant-garde in music and the visual arts. Gingras traces and elucidates the important and little-known moments in his practice while exploring the notion of the aural imagination. The publication is richly illustrated with images of his works, installations and performances as well as with numerous archival documents.
