For the first exhibition of this programme, Michèle Thériault, Director of the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery, invited the author Scott Toguri McFarlane to write an essay on the work Black Ring (1965) by the Canadian artist Roy Kiyooka. Toguri situates this work within a liberating multidisciplanary practice characterized by poetry, photography, collage and performance.
